In collaboration with Fairtrade-Network of Asia-Pacific Producers (NAPP), TPSA conducted a five-day training-of-trainers on women’s leadership in cooperatives. The training took place at Bayu Hill Hotel in Takengon, Aceh, on October 15–19, 2018. Seven women leaders and 11 key staff of six Fairtrade-certified women-led coffee cooperatives participated in the training:

• Kopepi Ketiara
• KSU Arinagata
• Ratu Ketiara Gayo
• Utamagro Tani Gayo

The main objective of the training was to increase the knowledge of leaders and staff of these cooperatives on how women’s leadership and membership contributes to cooperatives’ democratic governance, the economic success of the cooperative, and the training and advocacy skills to promote the cooperative.

The topics covered in the training included:

• basic and advanced gender concepts such as gender equality and equity
• gender analysis tools
• cooperative principles and values
• Fairtrade standards
• elements, characteristics, and role models of women’s leadership in different spheres (community development and environmental protection, entrepreneurship, cooperatives, and international development)
• group facilitation and participatory decision-making
• communication
• networking
