- Aceh

The TPSA project organized a coffee buyer mission to Gayo Highland in Aceh Province for three Canadian buyers from November 15–20, 2018. The buyers visited five TPSA coffee producers in Aceh Tengah and Bener Meriah districts. The Gayo Highland region is the largest Arabica coffee producing region in Indonesia and has been one of the most highly demanded coffee in Canada and the United States.

Three Canadian coffee importers travelled to Indonesia:

  • Mountain Coffee (British Columbia)
  • Planet Beans (Ontario)
  • Café Vittoria (Quebec)

They visited the following five coffee producers:

  • Arinagata Cooperative
  • Meukat Komuditi Gayo
  • Orang Utan Coffee
  • Kokowagayo Women’s Cooperative
  • Redelong Organik Cooperative.

In order to have buyers become more familiar with coffee sourcing in Indonesia, TPSA also organized short visits to six coffee producers in Gayo highland and two Gayo coffee exporters in Medan, North Sumatra.

Mission activities included profile presentations on individual businesses, farm visits to meet coffee farmers, post-harvest demonstrations, cupping, and facility inspections. On November 15, the Canadian buyers had the opportunity to observe a Gayo coffee auction organized by Meukat Komuditi Gayo, one of the coffee producers supported by the TPSA project.
